So this is a bit of good news and bad news. Good news is, my parents are finally letting me take Bunny and Button to the vet for an exam. Bad news is, Bunny is very, very sick.
Over the past few weeks, Bunny’s single tumor has multiplied into three. She has also become very lethargic and very skinny. Sometimes she needs help eating, and I’ve had to give her two baths this week already. This has all happened so suddenly and I did not expect it at all. Just a month ago, Bunny was fine and Button was the one I was fretting over. I’m pretty baffled by Bunny’s condition, but after giving her a bath the other day I discovered the second tumor, this one being very dark, and realized she probably has cancer.
According to this article, malignant/cancerous tumors are dark, and it also mentions abscesses (which Bunny has), weight loss, and lethargy:
“In contrast, malignant tumors, also called cancer, usually invade and damage nearby tissues. They sometimes also metastasize (rarely in rats)….The symptoms of cancer can include a skin ulcer, infected lump, or abscess that won’t heal, an ulcerated or bleeding tumor, a distended abdomen, weight loss, and lethargy.” (Debbie “The Rat Lady” Ducommun)
I’m not sure how tomorrow will go. Hopefully, I will have a few more days with Bunny. But if the vet determines that she is in a lot of pain, then it may be time to say goodbye.
